Now that we are finally feeling cooler temps it’s time to face the consequences the long, hot summer on our skin: sun exposure, heat, chlorinated pools, lakes and saltwater. TCA peels are a perfect end of summer treatment by exfoliating dull skin stimulating skin cell turnover and revealing brighter healthy looking skin. Peels can also help lighten sun spots and even out skin tone. My favorite peel is the 10% TCA peel which is safe and effective for all skin types. It absorbs evenly and slowly into the skin with great results.
What to Know Before you Schedule Your Peel
While there is no “downtime” with peels , there are a few things you should know before scheduling:
The peel is left on the skin when you leave your appointment. It needs to stay on 4-6 hours or overnight. It is self-neutralizing so will turn off automatically.
You will not be able to get heated or go in the sun for at least 72 hours after a peel. This means no hot yoga, golf, hiking etc. Once the peeling starts you can go back to activities with SPF.
The peel is designed to gently slough off your dead, summer skin, similar to what you would expect after a slight sunburn. This sunburn feeling lasts about 48 hours. Your skin will loosen and flake for about 7-10 days. This is the step clients are most hesitant about, but the reality is much less eventful than expected.
The smooth skin results far outweigh the few days of flaky skin and sunburn feeling. My clients notice products absorb better, makeup goes on smoother and skin has a fresh healthier looking glow.
Peels Help With These Skin Issues:
Chemical peels are used to exfoliate a few or many layers of skin to improve the skin’s appearance and texture. Peels can solve many skin issues including:
Fading dark spots, sun spots, and freckles;
Smoothing marks left by acne;
Relieving congested pores;
Removing pre-cancerous lesions;
Diminishing fine lines and wrinkles; and,
Removing skin damaged by sun exposure.
